Zeolite Used on Roads

Rock salts have many adverse effects on the environment, including water reserves pollution, plants, aquatic life, and soils. The Government must find alternative ways of removing and melting ice on roads and traction control.

Salts are washed away after they are spread on ice and can enter nearby water reserves and lakes.

Researchers have found that the salt that runs off to the lakes and streams can affect algae and other fish feed source when accumulated in larger quantities.

The additives in the ice melt product cannot fully replace rock salts for ice melting, but they can greatly enhance the melting process and reduce the quantity of salt needed for road maintenance in winters.

Zeolite used on road maintenance is mixed with other ice melt products as an additive. Sodium chloride and some other salts are used with Zeolite. It helps break the surface of the ice. The zeolite used on roads increases traction control by absorbing water. Zeolite also traps and removes harmful chemicals and toxins in the melted ice and prevents soil and water from being polluted by them.
