Heavy metals like Copper, Mercury, silver, iron, magnesium, Cesium, cyanide, and many more are accumulating more and more in freshwater reserves and underground water storage as well as growing population, pollution, and industrialization.

This imposes great health hazards for humans, plants, animals, and all living beings.

Adding Zeolite to wastewater helps in heavy metal removal as the mineral naturally soaks up metals in waste. Ion exchange mechanism promises the removal of ammonium and other heavy metals, helping in environment purification and water treatment.

Clinoptilolite is an excellent absorbent. It traps the heavy metals in its natural honeycomb-like structure and prevents them from seeping by the ion-exchange mechanism. It also prevents heavy metals that are hazardous for plants from leaking from the soil into the plant bed, hence preventing soil and plant pollution.

Zeolite was tested for the heavy metal removal capacity. Two forms of Clinoptilolite were used, pretreated and untreated. The untreated mineral soaked more than 90 percent of the beach metals like nickel, lead, magnesium, and others. The pretreated mineral had less absorption capacity than the untreated one. Using 5 to 30 milligrams of Zeolite in water treatment helps in the decontamination of polluted water. The effect of Zeolite on Heavy metal absorption was visible; it soaked up water and raised the pH of the acid mine water that caused the precipitation of heavy metals incorporated within the wastewater in the form of solid masses. Moreno did this study in 2001.

Treating Zeolite with HCl and bacteria increased its heavy metal removal capacity. About ninety-eight percent of metals were removed from the contaminated water by Hcl activated Clinoptilolite. Mamba, along with other researches, found out that Zeolite removes heavy metals efficiently from acidic mine water and mineral solutions.
